Previous research programmes

Previous projects have focused on:

  • The Fundamentral Rights Situation of Irregular Immigrants in the European Union (in partnerships with the Fundamental Rights Agency of the EU) as well as
  • Studying the links between individual migration plans and the migration policies of sending and receiving states (MIGSYS project: Immigrants, policies and migration systems) and
  • Seeking to provide data on the number of undocumented migrants in select EU member states in an effort to inform policy makers and assist in the designing and implementing of appropriate policies regarding undocumented migration ( Undocumented Migration: Counting the Uncountable Data and Trends Across Europe -CLANDESTINO)
  • Developing a cooperation network to link representatives of Mediterranean Member States facing similar challenges as Greece in respect to the integration of third country nationals (Mediterranean Network for the Integration of Migrants – M.N.I.Mi). The scope of the project was the creation, activation and support of a cooperation network between public agencies, research institutes and civil society among Mediterranean E.U. member states.
  • Examining the extent and nature of local government interventions in pursuing immigrant integration and in managing multi-ethnic diversity (LOMIGRAS).The project also developed a usable interactive tool to monitor and assess the effects of local government in promoting migrant integration.
  • Informing and engaging key policy actors on how to use indicators to improve integration governance and policy effectiveness through the “Integration policies: Who benefits? The development and use of indicators in integration debates” (MIPEX) project, and
  • Monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of integration measures that have been adopted at the level of Member States, in the “Assessing integration measures for vulnerable migrant groups-ASSESS” project.
