Dimitra Dimitrakopoulou / Research Fellow

dimitraDimitra Dimitrakopoulou is Research Fellow at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) and Lecturer at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). Since January 2014, she is the Principal Investigator for ELIAMEP and Work Package-Leader on Social Media in the research project “INFOCORE: (In)forming conflict prevention, response and resolution: the role of media in violent conflict” funded under the 7th European Framework Program. Her research interests include online and participatory journalism, social media and networks, new media literacy, hate speech on web 2.0 platforms. She has studied Journalism & Mass Communication at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and Online Publishing Studies (M.Phil.) at the University of Stirling, UK. She has obtained her PhD at the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with her thesis on the impact of the Internet on the role and the profession of journalists. For the year 2011 she was awarded with the Scholarship of Excellence as a postdoctoral fellow from the Research Committee of AUTh for her research project on new media literacy. She has worked as a researcher for EU projects and is involved in international networks and projects as lead researcher and coordinator for Greece. She is currently the Vice-Chair of the European Communication Research and Education Association‘s Journalism Studies Section.
